What kind of 大侠 are you?

Oh Man.. You can get breast cancer too!

Well, at least that's what this articles is saying.

Some important points..
  1. Only a tiny fraction of breast cancers diagnosed — less than 1% — occur in men.

  2. Perhaps the surest risk factor — in both women and men — is family history.

  3. Survival rates for men and women are similar, but men are more likely to be diagnosed at a later stage. That's probably because women undergo regular screening.

hmmm.. gotta get in touch with my OWN breasts more now..

Sing K

Went Partyworld with some old school mates. Turn out better than wat I expect. Had a fun time. ha!

Family Gathering

Went to Sakae Suhi at the Pasir Ris NTUC resort with Dad, Big S and Small S. Think this is the first time Dad ate in Sakae Sushi. It has been awhile since we ate out as a family, and this time is different cos I get to treat them! Cool. Though the bill totalled up to be quite high, I thought it's worth it for the time spent. Too bad Ema wasn't in S'pore. Next time maybe, we'll bring Ema along.

Silent Witness

A man once suspected of killing his girlfriend left his hometown to become a lawyer, only to return to defend his best friend 28 years later, of a charge so similar to his. A very impactful story. Not really the same as the political novels like his Kilcannon stories, but no less thrilling and satisfying.

Richard described the scenes very well, so much so you can almost see it in your mind. Quite a number of sexual references, after I finished the book I actually felt a chill in myself.. Kinda scary if such people really exists in real life. Really sad for the main man too.

Mind yer own business

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

A book about the journey of a man, who harbour the dream of making it big as a busker. The book documents the things that happened to him in his journey and how it change him as a person. Not as hilarious as the back of the book suggested, but not as bad as I originally thought.

The Ouside Man

The story begins with a lawyer discovering the body of the wife of his friend/client. Through his investigation and pursue of the real murderer, he realised almost everyone in the town has his/her dark secrets, even those who are dearest to him.

The first half was quite slow, until halfway through the book when things starts to link. And link together it does, as things starts falling into place, you realised that the whole thing is the sick work of a psychotic dude. The book finally ended on a high. I love books that make me turned back to re-read parts that I missed out. This is one of it.

Next

I wrote a review of this book, but for some reason the 臭 blogger lost it. I'm not going to write the whole chunk again, but this is a good book (albeit a light-weighted one). So if you always enjoy Michael Crichton's work, go for it.

1408 is a funny movie

Dying at home – of course not!

It was mentioned in today's Today (puny pun) paper that Mr Khaw wants to make it easier for the terminally-ill to die at home, as he believed that like him, most people would prefer to die at home.

Nothing against him, but as far as I see it, there's more benefits to dying in the hospital than at home.

Here's why
1. The hospital guys are more experienced. If I die I wouldn't want too much trouble for my folks, with all the cleaning up and stuff.

2. The doctors are there, there's no need to frantically find a doctor to certify my death.

3. The staff there probably have some contacts on funeral services as well.

4. The hospital is a conducive place to die. It is almost impossible die peacefully if there are kids running and shouting along the corridor and void deck.

5. If I don't die yet, at least there are nurses to take care of me. So my folks can carry on with their daily activities.

6. Can't imagine getting all my friends and folks to crowd inside my bedroom. Privacy issues.

7. The facilities are better. Bed that can be elevated, air conditioned room, meals at the bed, tv....

8. Lastly. All the above comes at no charge. That's what enhanced medishield is for.Contact your insurance agent to find out how.

Ok, something I'll probably miss if I'm in the hospital, my labtop and playstation. Wonder if they will allow me to bring it in. I reckon they probably will, why argue with someone with not much longer to live?

Quality Time

Went partyworld with Hime yesterday. The two of us sang for 4 hours straight. Today we went to the dental clinic together. Been some time since we spent such quality time together. Feels good.

Monday, July 30, 2007

I really need to go

  1. Repair my phone. Its getting on my nerves. But the place is so damn far..
  2. See my dentist. Its almost a year since I last saw her. Wonder if my cavity got any bigger. Better get the filling done.
  3. Donate blood. The last time I did it was in August last year I think. Did so much evil over the year, time to do some good and save some lives.

The whole show reminds me a lot about the 新警察故事 by Jackie Chan, probably cos they have the same director? A very simple story about 3 cops who had their own personal reasons to catch this gang of super duper martial art experts cum evil doers. Highly entertaining.

Transformers

6 reasons why Transformer (the movie) sucks

  1. Optimus Prime did not make his appearance until more than one hour into the show.
  2. Optimus Prime has a mouth?!
  3. They changed Optimus Prime's truck.
  4. What are all the people doing in the show? I want to see more robots!
  5. The much anticipated action was disappointing.
  6. Optimus Prime sucks. Yes, because they make Optimus Prime so sucky, hence the movie sucks.
The only saving grace is Bumblebee, who is rather endearing. Those who told me Transformer is very nice, hate you all lor. I wouldn't have watch it if not for all your comments, and now I regret so much for watching it.

Went partyworld with colleagues yesterday. haha they had to bear with my terrible singing! Dun care!

PS: Holy shit Royce chocolates are so damn good!

Overworld

Got this book from library. The starting is not bad, when the author talks about his childhood life with his father, who was an intelligience officer, more commonly known as a spy. The story then slowly moves on to his own life a spy. Yeah, slowly, too slow. In fact I haven't read about the part when he became a spy. Anyway, a number of factors contributed to me unable to finish the book even in 6 weeks. So, back to the library it shall go.

Don't write me off just yet

It's never been easy for me
To find words that go along with a melody
But this time there's actually something on my mind
So please forgive these few brief awkward lines
Since I met you my whole life has changed
It's not just the furniture you re-arranged
I was living in the past
But somehow you brought me back
and I havn't felt like this since before Frankie said relax
and now I know based on my track record
I may not seem like the safest bet
All I'm asking you is
Don't write me off just yet
[ Lyrics found on http://www.metrolyrics.com ]
For years I've been telling myself the same old story
That I'm happy to live off my so called former glories
but you've given me a reason
to take another chance
now I need you despite the fact
that you've killed all my plants
and now I know
that i've already blown more chances
then anyone should ever get
all I'm asking you is
don't write me off just yet
don't write me off just yet

LEFT OR RIGHT?

First, identify yourself as right or left brain person:

1. Hold your hands together, as if you were praying. Look at your hands. If you see

Left thumb is below the right thumb ---> left brain Right thumb is below the left thumb ---> right brain

2. Fold your arms in front of you (as if you are angry) Right arm above left arm ---> left brain

Left arm above right arm ---> right brain

Based on 1+2 (order important), below is the interpretation of your personality:

Right-Left

Considerate, traditional, indirect type

can instinctly read other's emotion, and respond friendly by natures. Although not very into taking intiatives in moving forward, but this person will always take a step back in supporting others. Stable personality and considerate, give others a being protected feeling. But the weakness is they cannot say no; regardless how unwilling they are, they will take care of others.

Right-Right

Loves challenges type

Straightfoward. Once they decided on one thing, will take action right away. Very curious, and love challenges. Dare to face dangers without thinking through (sometimes foolishly). Their weakness is they dont listen to others, will filter in only what whey want to hear in a conversation, and very subjective. However, because of their straightforward attitude, they tend to be fairly popular.

Left-Left

Dedicated, cold, perfectionist

Very logical in all aspects. The only way to defeat (or win over) him/her is through reasons. Has a lot of prides, and feeling strongly about doing the right thing. If they are your friends, they are very trustworthy. However, if they are your opponets, they will be very tough to deal with. Because they can be very "anal" as a perfectionist, they usually leave a bad impression of being hard to deal with when first met.

Left-Right

Likes to take care of others, leader type

Has a cool and keen observation ability to see through situations, yet still can be considerate in others needs. Because of their cool and calm nature, and strong sense of responsibility, they tend to become head of a group. Popular among people. However, they may not be able to help themselves in meddling because they want to take care of others too much. Very concerned about how others view them, and always on alert.

Headhunted?

*Trrooo Trooo Hello Moto, Deng deng deng deng........* (That's my hp ringing)

Me: "Hello?"

Sweet lady's voice: "Hi can I speak to ***. I'm calling from ****.

Me: "Yes?"

Sweet lady's voice: "We are looking for people who are talented or have potential ........ Have you heard of our company?"

Me: "Errr... No?" (Actually I didn't get what she said her company was cos she spoke too fast)

Sweet lady's voice: "Well, actually our company deals with *******. Do you think you will be interested in a position in our company?"

Me: "Erm, I don't think so." (I dun really have a choice at this point)

Okay this is not the whole conversation, but the gist is roughly there. Guess I effectively killed any chance of me working in that company in the future. Anyway, have to say it feels good to get this kind of call.

Today is a happy day, as I made a pair of spectacles for just $88! Say it together!!!

Eighty-Eight dollars!!

And it is not just some ugly glasses, a similar design by some designer brand would easily cost $600++. Will post the pic once I collect it.

Hallucination or what?

Was eating this peach(?) dessert at a restaurant that day, and I thought I saw the desert smiling back at me. I thought it was just my hallucination, but I swear I can see the smile on the picture that I took as well. Scroll down to see the picture for yourself if you do not believe me. Creepy.....

2 Days

Was on a project on 2 days. One and a half to be exact. It's my first time interacting with all this small people. In the end the experience is not as bad as I had imagined. Not sure if I learn anything, but I did had my fair share of fun and laughter. Wonder if our paths will cross again?

Bridge to Terabithia

Well, despite complaining about so much things to do, i still managed find time for this movie.
I have no idea what the show is about in the first place, thinking it is something like Chronicles of Narnia. I couldn't be more wrong. In the end it is about friendship, love, and the beauty of innocence. Watching this show really reminds me of all the things I like to do when I was a kid. And things I wish I could do but never get to do it. A very magical show, makes me want to pick up my drawing pencil again. Dun really like the ending though, why must the girl die? Hime dun like it though. Haha.. guess it doesn't make sense to her, or maybe I have weird taste.

Air: Or, Have Not Have

A very refreshing change from my usual dose of Crichton, Grisham etc. I too lazy to talk about what the book is about, all I can say is the book is written is a very unique style, very different from the american authors. Perhaps less commercial, but no less engaging. There are some very far-fetched events in the book, that make the book probably more fantasy than science fiction, not sure if everyone will like it, but I enjoyed it tremendously.

Disappointing Spidey

So much hype had been going on Spiderman 3, i tot it would be a smashing show. With 3 villains, love triangles and spidey turns bad, watever. It's definitely a huge let down I feel. The divided attention on the 3 villains made the show so disjointed. They should never have introduce Venom and Sandman in one movie. There wasn't much character development in either one of them, and because they try to incorporate both of them, plus the existing feud with the goblin-junior, and with Peter Parker getting bad, there's just too much to be stuffed into a two and a half hour show. It's a case of doing so much but achieving little. I wonder why all the critics praise the movie so much. The only part that I really enjoy is when Peter Parker goes bad and does weird things. That part is truly hilarous. Otherwise, a hugely let down compared to the previous two outings by Spidey.

Went to Jolin's 唯舞独尊演唱会, and it's great! We had a good view, though it's at the right side of the stage. Can't remember how many songs she sang, but true to the title of the concert, she really dance her socks of. And she sang quite well too. She's so much different from when she just started out in showbiz, you can really see the effort that she put in. No wonder so many people like her. It's hard to believe that her tiny body can produce so much energy. Oh btw, Energy was the guess stars, but let just say, their stars had fallen. Two Thumbs up to Jolin, hope to see her in concert again next time.

Hearty Paws

For those who think this is Quill number 2, you are wrong!! And if you are thinking of bring some kids to watch a heartwarming show about a cute little dog, stop now!

This show is about a poor dog, who gets blamed for her little master's death, subsequently gets abandoned, journeyed on stony railway tracks, having to steal, beg, and rampaged the garbage dump for food, and was almost caught by some uniformed people. After reconciling with her boy master, she got whacked by a baddie, bitten by another mad dog, burdened with a sick master who can't take care of himself, down with frailing eyesight, got whacked again while trying to rescue his master. And finally, when the bad guy is gone, she dies! How depressing can it get?

The little girl sitting near us was absolutely devastated by all the cruel acts to the dog, I can hear her crying for the most part of the show. I almost feel sorry for her. Was wondering if she will get over this trauma.

BUT having said all that, it is a very good show. Heartwrenching at times, nonetheless the dog is once again depicted as the most loyal friend you can find on earth, and you will simply love her. I just hope no animals were hurt during the filming of this movie. Even to the mad dog in the show.

I know I should start mugging my textbooks, but I just can't get it going. Instead I completed another novel by John Grisham, The Pelican Brief. It was an old book, and was made into a movie way back in 1993, though I'd never watch the show.

I told myself that this will be my last story book for a while, I should concentrate on the more important stuff, but.. haha.. Curse the Boon Lay library to have so many good books. When I returned The Pelican Brief, I just wanted to have a walk in the library. In the end I borrowed 3 books again. Deception Point from Dan Brown, Sphere from Michael Chricton and The Client from John Grisham.

Some of my favourite authors..

Quite good. Very real. Though Andy Lau is the bad guy, he's not those evil type of baddie.. Louis Koo is more bad i think.. but he looks very funny sometimes. Guess all the actor/actress are too good looking, really hard to hate them. One character that I dun like though, one of the policeman. But he lost his hand, so I guess he got his punishment. Oh, and Andy Lau's elder daughter in the show, feel like slapping her.
