I've a friend who claimed to have read most, if not all of John Grisham's Bestsellers.
"The Summons" is his first book that i read.
"The Summons" is his first book that i read.
I wonder how it ranks with the rest of his books, coz i was rather disappointed by it. I had expected a fast paced thriller with amazing twists in the story, but many times i almost fall asleep while reading this book.
The story is about about a law professor who was "summoned" back to his father's house, only to discover that his father was dead, and had hidden 3 million worth of cold hard cash in the old house.
Where did the money came from, what should he do with the money, who else knows of this secret?
Sounds good, but it doesn't live up to its expectation.
Too many characters and incidents that bear no relation to the storyline, nor do them contribute to a tenser atmosphere. They jus slow down the pace so much so that i gave up after some time, choosing to simply browses
through and turn the pages impatiently.
through and turn the pages impatiently.
The revelation of the truth in the end fail to generate any climax, and only adds to my frustration.
